A pretty compelling case for ultralight cylce touring. The author includes 3 seperate gear lists (for various weight levels). In my opinion, the best thing about this book is the gear lists. Not that I agree with everything on them, but they make a great starting point, and caused me to re-evaluate my own cycle touring setup.I created my own spreadsheets out of the lists James presents in the book, and modified the list to fit my own gear and preferences. I just went on a trip this weekend that James would consider ultralight (12 pounds of gear, bags, etc) and made quite a few modifications to my normal gear list to get there. The results were worth it, as the trip was much more enjoyable than it would have been had I carried my usual heavier setup. All in all, an enjoyable, informative read.
An excellent practical guide for those who fancy bike touring, but without looking like one of those guys who's packed his whole house and looks liable to keel over and die at any minute. Lots of practical tips for what to bring, how to pack it, and how to get by on about five kilos of stuff.

I was very interested in reading the authors lightweight style but I didn't like the singularity of his opinion. It was far from all-inclusive and neglected to expand on the gear and techniques available to the "bike packing " community.
