The story centers on Captain Nicholas Addison and Mrs. Emmaline Sutherland. He believes he’s assisting in the transport of Emmaline across the Atlantic. But when his ship is attacked by pirates, he finds that Mrs. Sutherland is actually the feared pirate Lady Anne. She needs to keep Nicholas alive to get information she needs to get revenge on her estranged father. But as they spend more time together, they find they cannot fight their growing attraction to the other. Can they see past what they feel is right and honorable in order to have a future together?TNLA has all of the elements I personally enjoy in historical romance. A strong leading male, protective of the object of his affection, and in Nicholas’ case a bit chauvinistic but in a somewhat charming way. It has an equally strong female lead in Emmaline/Lady Anne, who is not what one would expect, but what Nicholas needs. She continues to defy his expectations in what a lady should be, and he loves her even more for it. Despite being insecure in their growing relationship at times, both Nicholas and Emmaline come to realize they are stronger together than against each other. And the story is set against a historical backdrop upon the high seas with an action packed plot to move the story along. Also, let us not forget the passionate romance (and sizzling sex scenes). Everything I’ve come to love and expect in Cullen’s stories, and TNLA is no exception. Definitely a must read if you like historical romance. And I have to repeat that I thought I did not like HR books until I received a few ARCs of Cullen’s. I flat-out bought all of the Secrets & Seduction series, and I feel I won’t be disappointed in the purchase!

Oh, how I loved our H, he is strong in mind and character. Our h did take me awhile to like her, so the connection between them also took awhile.
The secondary character's are an interesting bunch, but always loyal to our h.
The lovemaking is passionate, and not erotic in the least.
I would have enjoyed an Epilogue, even though there isn't a cliffhanger, I wanted to know how all their changes played out. I guess that is why this is part of a series. If you want to know more about our H/h, and his siblings - we need to keep reading the series.
There is HEA, but oh my is the road bumpy!! I am not going into the premise, as other's have described it in detail, but I did enjoy this story. I didn't give it 5 stars because the beginning had a slow pace to it, but did improve.
So we have HEA, some lovemaking, no cliffhanger and a different Pirate story - so yes I do recommend it. (ljb)
A new voice in historical romance, although new one whose writing promises to be with us for many years. An avid historical romance reader it takes a good book to grab and hold my attention to begin and read through to the finish. This book, The Notorious Lady Anne, is such a book. It will not disappoint those expecting the necessary components of a keeper romance read.
A fiery feisty heroine, who is a lady pirate after revenge against her father, mixed with a handsome but injured hero who happens to hate pirates sets the stage for a well written page turner. Unexpected passion between a noble naval officer and a lady parading as a female pirate added to seductive unpredictability and surprises is quite the recipe for a terrific read you won’t want interrupted.
The reader is drawn into the story and is made to feel a part of the book as it unfolds. It involves various emotions of passion, love, humor, and understanding with enough sexual fire to make it spicy and intriguing.
What noble naval officer, who hates pirates, expects to be kidnapped by, of all people, a lady pirate? This hero is definitely in for a surprise!! The confident headstrong stubborn personality of the heroine is not what he is used to in a female. From the first meeting in a social setting to being kidnaped by mythical legend of a female pirate the hero is put into quite a spin.
I am most definitely looking forward to any upcoming future books from this author. A true historical romance reader will not be disappointed by any means. It’s a keeper!
For the most part I enjoyed this book but I was not surprised to discover that it was a first effort. History has mention of several lady pirates such as Ann Bonny and Lady Anne is sufficiently ruthless to fit the billing of a female scourge of the sea but I was a little disappointed in the historical references ( or lack thereof ) and some of the ambiguity related to the characters. For instance, how old is Lady Anne ? By my best accounting she would be about 27 and still a virgin with soft slightly tanned un weathered skin after 11 years at sea ! ( I guess she bathed in coconut oil ).
Although errors are fairly routine with first time authors when embarking on an historical effort it is at least mandatory that one researches the clothing of the chosen period. Men in 1750 did not wear trousers or cravats, this was a period of knee breeches with stockings, high heels and lace, also, dances were of the minuet variety not anything that resembled a waltz. The female fashion of the time consisted of panniers and whale bone constructions that were usually discreetly laced together at the waist so as to appear one piece. God is in the details.
But while certain glaring incongruities were annoying the overall story held my interest to the end utilizing some interesting twists and turns. I am sure that any author willing to put this kind of effort into a story will clean up the incongruities with experience and time and I always admire the effort.
